London, W.Bulner and Co, y Longman,Hurst,And Orme, 1801 - 1808. Plena piel estampada y dorada, con estuche también en plena piel. La obra de Pope, desconocida a Graesse. El ejemplar que ofrecemos posee una bellísima encuadernación en plena piel con nervios,gofrados y profusión de dorados perfectamente ejecutados en lomo y planos exteriores e interiores. Guardas de seda roja. Posee igualmente un precioso estuche en plena piel reproduciendo la encuadernación interior. Además,se enriquece con la rarísima característica de haber sido decorado por el sistema conocido como "Fore edge painting", que es un método que permite ver el libro con sus tres cortes dorados cuando se encuentra en posición normal, mientras que al doblarlo en forma de abanico apaprece una bella pintura de paisaje policromada ejecutada en acuarela y que en este ejemplar representa un lago con tres pequeñas barcas,una de ellas de vela y al fondo una casa palacio y frondosos árboles, pintura que solo es visible al ejecutar este movimiento. El autor, Alejandro Pope,poeta y literato inglés enormemente polémico y estrafalario en su aspecto recibió numerosas críticas y fué sujeto de numerosas polémicas,gozando de gran popularidad entre sus contemporáneos.También se dediccó a la pintura,ejecutando principalmente copias de retratos.Voltaire dijo de él que era el mas grande poeta didáctico que se había conocido en todas las lenguas.Peses a sus escentricidades como la puiblicación de su correspondencia en vida.No obstante,la posteridad daría la razón a Voltaire.Pieza excepcional. |
